Problem

Every app tried to teach everything.
None of them taught a student where they stood.

Every platform sold courses. None helped you choose.

Most JEE apps chase scale. They cover every exam, every stream, every subject, and JEE becomes one small tab inside a crowded system. The result is scattered preparation and quiet panic. Aspirants were never short on material. They were short on direction. A student does not need more content thrown at them. They need to know where to start, where they are, and what comes next.

Indian EdTech had no shortage of courses — but every platform only sold its own. Students researching a single skill opened five to six websites, compared prices in spreadsheets, and still couldn't tell which course was genuinely better. The cost of choosing wrong was ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per decision.

JEE buried inside everything else

When one app tries to serve every exam, no single aspirant is served well. JEE gets diluted into a general pool, and the student loses the focused path they actually came for.

Effort with no visible return

Students studied for hours and still could not say how much was done. Without a clear measure of progress, motivation leaks away and doubt fills the gap.

Anxiety with nothing to anchor it

No reliable way to test readiness meant the fear had no floor. The closer the exam, the louder the panic, because nothing on screen told them they were on track.

Research

I didn't design from assumptions.
I sat with the students living the problem.

We didn't start designing. We started listening.

Before a single screen, I went where the aspirants actually were. Coaching centers, real conversations, real interviews. Not to confirm an idea, but to find out where preparation truly breaks and why the anxiety builds even after long hours of work. The app had to answer problems students felt, not problems I imagined.

I went where the students were

I sat inside coaching centers and watched preparation happen in real time. Not surveys, not assumptions. Watching where a student's focus breaks, where the doubt creeps in, and why long hours still leave them unsure. The problem was never effort. It was the absence of a clear path through it.

Approach

Research gave me the problems.
These were the decisions I built on top of them.

Every choice here traces back to something a student said or struggled with. Nothing was added to look sophisticated. These are the rules that shaped every screen that followed.

Research gave us five principles. This section is what we did with them — the structural rules that locked every sitemap, navigation, and user flow that followed. None are decorative. Every one traces back to a research insight.

Focus on JEE, nothing else

No multi exam clutter. The entire app serves one aspirant with one goal. Focus was the feature, and everything outside JEE was cut on purpose.

Make progress impossible to miss

A progress dashboard sits at the center of the experience. Accuracy, completed chapters, strengths, weak spots, all visible at a glance. The student never has to wonder how far they have come.

Break the syllabus into decisions, not chaos

Chapter wise quiz structure replaces random question sets. The student chooses a specific area and works it, so preparation feels like a series of clear moves, not a scramble.

Rank by effort, not by fear

The leaderboard is built on XP earned through consistent practice, not raw scores. It shows relative progress without turning preparation into a source of exam anxiety.

Readable layouts, quiet interfaces, no visual noise. During long study hours, clarity is kindness. The design gets out of the way so the student can think.

Solution

Every screen has one job.
Show the student the truth about where they stand.

The design turns scattered preparation into a clear, measurable path. Each screen came from a decision, and each decision came from a student. Here is what the core screens solve and why they look the way they do.

Everything shipped from a single Figma file — a public marketplace for learners and an internal admin dashboard for EdTech operations. Both built on the same design system, designed across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Retrospective

The app made preparation clear.
The next step is making it personal.

The design solved the problem it set out to solve. A student can see where they stand, what is left, and what to do next. But clarity is the floor, not the ceiling. The further this goes, the more it should adapt to the individual student rather than showing everyone the same view.

What I'd do differently

I would bring an AI based assistant into the core, something that reads a student's performance data and gives instant, specific guidance. The dashboard shows the truth. The next version should also tell the student what to do about it.

Tradeoffs

Balancing detailed analytics against a calm, simple interface was the constant tension. I chose clarity over completeness, holding back data on purpose so a student under pressure would never feel buried. Less on screen, more understood.

Lessons

This project made one thing certain. Usability and calm matter more than decoration. A clear structure and a readable, quiet layout did more for an anxious student than any amount of visual polish ever could.
